The Lost Hero is written by Rick Riordan and was released on October 12, 2010. This book has some familiar characters from the old series, such as Annabeth and Chiron. They mention Percy Jackson through out the book, though he is mostly referred to as "Annabeth's boyfriend." The new main characters are Jason, a son of Jupiter who is the main protagonist, Piper, a daughter of Aphrodite went possibly to the same school as Jason though it was all fake, and Leo, a son of Hephaestus and has the power to shoot fire from his hands, which no other child of Hephaestus has been able to do in centuries.
The three kids have to find Hera before mother earth, Gaia, takes her powers. Jason does not end up dying, but Piper's undying love from him caused her to keep trying to wake him up, and eventually does. The book ends saying that Percy Jackson is stuck at the Roman camp Half-Blood and has amnesia. There is a sequel called Son of Neptune set to come out October 11, 2011.
